Graupel

Yesterday we had a winter storm with lightning and thunders, which is rare in this area and is always seen as a bad sign by the ancestral collective wisdom. Over the existing snow we’ve got graupel, a kind of small hail that happens when the temperatures hover around zero degrees Celsius – not cold enough for snowing but also not warm enough for raining, plus the wind triggered by the thunderstorm. I took the opportunity to photograph some close-ups.
