The Oradea Storm

I shall begin with a video of the storm, filmed by several people. You will see the incredible horizontal rain & wind gusts, something I’ve never seen in my life until this storm.

It is to be noted that I come from the plains and not from a mountainous area. This means I am fairly used to violent summer storms and hail. But this was something else…

Some days later I had a walk in the city and this is what I saw…

Large branches fallen to the ground…

Some of them were dry, witnessing the indolence of the authorities who did not clean the trees at the proper time. In late spring, for instance, when you can spot the leafless branches.

But, as it happens frequently in real life, it is not the dying and the sick who is put to the ground, but the healthy and the young… Here is a healthy tree broken like a stick.

You shall not pass! Well… I shall not pass… I guess…

Imagine the strength of the wind… these are strong trees… Well… not strong enough…

Climate change is a thing. I am sorry for non-believers, but our climate is no longer how it used to be.

And, in the middle of the destruction and the chaos, a group of teenagers were socializing, completely ignoring the fact that they are simply staying in the middle of the garbage made by the fallen branches. Nobody got organized to help clean the city; they were on their smartphones. I avoided to be seen by them (as I might risk being attacked), but I managed to take a photo of a well-dressed girl who – to put it exactly how I imagined it – sat there like a senseless animal in the middle of a stable full of manure. Okay, there is climate change, but we are also challenged to change our ways and deal with the destruction and the mess resulted from this climate change. Being well-dressed and fashionable in the middle of the chaos… well… it is simply rude and insensitive…
