Sorry to disappoint but you don’t matter. The reality is that most people have no glorious or exceptional life ahead of them; it’s just a mundane life, like everyone else’s. You are not important and in the general economy of any situation you are only an expendable member of the public. Your opinion doesn’t matter and your impact is virtually zero. Almost nobody knows that you were born and it is likely that few people will know when you die. The entire world is focused on making you believe the contrary and for a certain period of time you might believe this too.
The only person in your life that CAN and MIGHT see you as important is… yourself. IF you’re lucky. Also, IF you’re luckier (or, extremely lucky), perhaps a couple of family members and friends will see you as significant. And there is a great chance that nobody will see you as important throughout your entire life. That’s it. Period.
So, if you expect the internet to acknowledge your existence (forget about importance), you err. And if you expect that politics and state affairs can move because you are civically active, you get it wrong as well. And finally, if you think that your opinion is original, valuable and worthy of interest, it is likely that you’re entitled and have illusions of grandeur. Nobody wants to hear from you; everybody wants to hear about themselves. It’s me, me, me, and again, me!
But… you can have a voice in your inner private life, in your head and perhaps in your couple or family. You can have opinions and you might be fortunate to be in a family or circle of friends who are interested about what you have to say. It is there, and only there, where your voice matters.
This being said, don’t count me in when it comes to religious, ethnical or political debates. My life doesn’t become happier, but sadder. I don’t want to convince anyone about anything and I gave up this illusion of having an impact of any kind. The reality is that the cynical and greedy puppeteers of this world will decide what is best for them and will sacrifice everybody in the process. I and many people around me will suffer the consequences of this madness. So please, leave me alone, I have no power over the present or the future. If I’m not chosen by a greater force, I do not intend to have my own agenda about this world. That arrogant attitude has left me. I know where my place is.
