Danube in Budapest

Budapest and the Danube River are interconnected entities. Between Pest and Buda there are several bridges and on the banks of Danube there are many sights. Here are some images.

A view of Danube from the Fővám Square (Fővám tér), on the Liberty Bridge (Szabadság híd), with the Gellért Hill (and the Szabadság szobor) to the left and the Buda Castle in the center and background. In the foreground there are sightseeing boats used for cruises on Danube.

On the Szabadság híd, close to the median line of Danube. In the distance is Erzsébet Bridge (Erzsébet híd).

The Buda side of the Szabadság bridge, with the entrance to Gellért Hill Cave (Gellérthegyi Barlang) to the left.

Looking back to Szabadság bridge and Pest.

A rather complex image of Gellért Hill, with the Gellért Thermal Bath (Gellért Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda) to the left, the cave entrance to the center, the Rock Chapel (Magyarok Nagyasszonya Sziklatemploma) and finally the Pauline Monastery (Pálos kolostor) to the right.

The St. Gerard Sagredo Statue (Szent Gellért-szobor) in the center, seen from the initial part of Erzsébet bridge.

The distinctive Erzsébet híd.

Looking south again towards Gellért Hill while on Erzsébet bridge. To the right is the Rudas Thermal Bath (Rudas Gyógyfürdő és Uszoda).

Erzsébet bridge and a view of Pest, with Budapest Inner-City Mother Church of Our Lady of the Assumption (Budapest-Belvárosi Nagyboldogasszony Főplébánia-templom) behind the other end of the bridge, next to Klotild Palace.

The same bridge seen from the Széchenyi Chain Bridge (Széchenyi Lánchíd). In the background is Gellért and to the right is the Buda Castle.

The view on the other side, towards the north, with the Hungarian Parliament Building (Országház) to the right, the Margaret Island (Margit-sziget) in the center and background, while the Margit Bridge (Margit híd) is visible in the foreground, and the red tower of the Szilágyi Dezső Square Reformed Church to the left.

The same view from above, namely from the Buda Castle Hill, looking north. The Chain Bridge is in the center.

The view towards south, with the Szabadság and Erzsébet bridges in the center. The church with the turquoise tower to the right is the Saint Catherine of Alexandria Church (Budapest-Tabáni Alexandriai Szent Katalin-templom). On the other bank of the Danube, the large black building to the left is the Budapest Marriott Hotel.
