Colchicum autumnale – the autumn crocus. Although they are beautiful flowers of the autumn, the plants contain colchicine, one of the strongest poisons available in the plant kingdom, classified as an extremely hazardous substance and having no antidote in case of overdose. However, colchicine is also a good anti-inflammatory medicine, especially for gout.
